Insulated Concrete Forms, better known as ICF are a newer construction method that provides incredible energy efficiency and strength. In Calgary’s weather, ICF can provide substantial energy savings in your home!
The design of an ICF form is such that there are no thermal bridges allowing energy loss. The insulated concrete forms are built is such a way that there are no internal pieces touching the external wall.
In the traditional construction model, wood or metal studs are used and then insulation is placed between the studs. This creates a place for heating or cooling to escape and increases the production of heating or cooling in the house resulting in substantially decreased energy efficiency.
The images below depict the heat escape that happens in traditional framing vs. Logix Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). The red/orange is the area that heat is escaping.
